Rai let the mournful not end before removing her violin from under her chin. She gently places it, and the bow, on her lap and looked up at the stars. People were crying over the loss of loved ones. She’d escaped from all that, further down the beach where she couldn’t hear then and they couldn’t hear her. She sighed and began placing it back in the silk case, with the Hera symbol displayed on the front. It was her second ever violin, her first, the one she’d learned with, had been burned in the fire years ago.

Her father had played the violin, before he died. It was Rai’s favourite instrument, and the first one she ever learned to play, using her fathers. Not only had she lost her oldest instrument, but a piece of her father as well. In the fire the twins had lost everything of his, except his company. That they got when the were 18, half each.

Lying back in the sand, Rai thought about all the events that had happened to them. It was more than most people lived through their entire lives, and the girls were only 15. And now this. How long until they were rescued? They never should have left England. Once again Rai was glad for the foresight to inform their mother of their whereabouts and to keep in touch for the month they’d been away. Of course she had worried, but she understood their need, and trusted them not to do anything stupid. and look where that got us! she snorted.
